Checkups & Cleanings
Routine dental checkups and cleanings are the foundation of a healthy smile—and one of the most important things you can do for your child’s long-term oral health. At Smiles for Kids Pediatric Dentistry, we go beyond just “checking teeth.” We create a fun, positive, and educational experience that helps your child feel confident and comfortable every step of the way.
Our goal is to build healthy habits early, reduce dental anxiety, and make coming to the dentist something your child looks forward to—not fears. From the friendly hello at the front desk to the high-five at the end of the visit, we’re here to support happy smiles at every age and stage.
Why Regular Visits Matter
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a dental checkup every six months. These visits allow us to:
Monitor tooth and jaw development
Catch small issues before they become bigger problems
Remove plaque and tartar that brushing alone can’t reach
Reinforce good oral hygiene habits in an age-appropriate way
Provide fluoride treatment (if needed) to strengthen enamel and prevent cavities
What to Expect at a Checkup
Each checkup is tailored to your child’s age and needs, but typically includes:
A gentle cleaning to remove buildup and polish the teeth
A comprehensive exam to check for cavities, gum health, and development
X-rays (if needed) to spot concerns between teeth or below the surface
Fluoride application to protect growing teeth
A fun and encouraging conversation about brushing, flossing, and healthy eating
Creating Positive Habits Early
Regular cleanings aren’t just about keeping teeth clean—they’re about building confidence, reducing anxiety, and helping kids understand that the dentist can be a safe and even enjoyable place. By starting early and staying consistent, we set your child up for a lifetime of good oral health.
