When will my child’s teeth come in or fall out?
One of the most common questions parents ask is, “When should my child’s teeth come in?”
Answer: Most babies get their first tooth between 6–12 months of age, but some teeth may appear earlier or later. Around age 6, children typically begin losing baby teeth and getting their first permanent teeth. This process continues throughout childhood, with most children having all of their permanent teeth (except wisdom teeth) by around 12–13 years old.
It’s important to remember that eruption timelines are averages, not deadlines. Just because your child is the first or last in their class to lose a tooth doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. Genetics, growth, and individual development all play a role in when teeth come in and fall out.
Regular dental visits allow us to monitor your child’s growth and development and identify any concerns early. If you ever have questions about your child’s eruption pattern, we’re always happy to help!
