Office News!
Posted: January 24, 2007 - By: Dr. LindhorstIt has almost been a year since I’ve posted on this blog! Wow… Hard to believe how fast the time has gone by! So now here we are…early 2008. Since I wrote last time much has happened…
First of all we had a whole summer of fun. At the very beginning of the summer, I enjoyed working for my dear friend; Dr. Pam Clark in Pearland while she was taking time off with her first baby. It was such a great experience to work in another pediatric dental office and to learn new things.
At the end of May we took a trip to San Antonio for the annual American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry conference. It was great to learn few new pearls of pediatric dentistry and to catch up with many pediatric dentists from all over the United States. We all worked very hard this summer and I was excited to welcome many new and wonderful patients to our office. As always in the midst of the summer rush, we took the week of July 4th off to rest a bit from the craziness. Bill, Christoph and I went to California to hike in Big Bear area and to relax with friends in San Fernando Valley.
At another point of the summer my husband and I also went to San Francisco and Napa Valley for a long weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather there and a wedding of a college friend of mine.
Overall, summer was busy, busy and for me it was a bit tiring since I was also growing a whole new baby! By the end of the summer I was barely fitting in our office with my huge tummy and my beautiful son, Lukas was born on October 13th, 2007. He is a quiet, loving, smiley and beautiful baby. So sweet! Few great pediatric dental ladies helped me in running the office while I was being a mommy. Some of you might have met them… Dr. Clark, Dr. Dube and Dr. Jetton. I can’t thank them enough for taking care of all of you and of my staff! Meantime we were adjusting at home to a life with 2 boys. Christoph has gone through the transition smoothly and has been a great big helper for me. I’m so excited about them playing together in the future! Christoph is also at school now and he is enjoying that greatly.
Professionally speaking, I have joined a great study club called Seattle Study Club, which reviews many dental topics monthly. We have had some neat orthodontic lectures and case discussions and next month we have a team building workshop for all the staff in our office. I am delighted to be invited to be part of this study club and I have enjoyed many benefits of it.
I also attended a practice management class in Las Vegas put on by the Levin Group, a leader in dental practice management. It was wonderful and I have hired the Levin Group to help me develop our practice and make it better. I hope all of you will see that and enjoy hanging out with us.
Finally the holiday season came along and we had a really good time. I loved seeing all my older patients again. What fun it is to hear about all their college majors, stories, places they’ve been to and all kinds of other fun things they tell us! We had our office holiday party at Michelangelo’s restaurant and everybody enjoyed the great food and the fun games. We even had our summer hygienists; Gina and Clarence come and enjoy the party.
Speaking of Gina, did you guys know she just had a baby??? A beautiful, healthy baby boy Hunter. We have very much enjoyed following her pregnancy and looking at the baby’s pictures. And I guess this pregnancy thing is in the water because Stefanie, our office manager and hygienist is also expecting a baby. This will be a second one for her and we are all waiting for June to find out whether it’s a boy or a girl. So do tell her CONGRATULATIONS when you see her next time!
All our staff had happy holidays and I think that everyone got all the gifts they had wanted ? We are now back to work and perfecting our practice to get ready for yet another summer. I hope to see many of you then, but I promise to write sooner than one year from today!

Well, well, well… The holidays had come and gone! We have seen many of our wonderful patients over the holidays and we are very happy to catch up with you! It was especially nice to see many of the older kids coming back from college to hang out with us. It is always a pleasure to hear all about your plans for the future and how school is going. To our high school seniors… Good Luck in the near future finding out about your college admissions. I believe in all of you! I’m sure you will get into the right place for you!
As for our holiday season-we had a great time here at Smiles For Kids! We worked hard and played hard! Our office had all kinds of fun decorations put up by Malgosia. We had Christmas movies playing all season long. I think we know many of them by heart! On the 16th of December we had a Christmas party at my house. It was a lot of fun. The food was delicious, gifts were fun, and we even got to dance by the end of the party! You should have been there. We’ll include a few pictures to make you feel like you were there.
But we hit January running! I went to Ft. Worth to take a wonderful class that reviews all topics of pediatric dentistry. And yes, of course I was there during the ice storm! But I got to see some of my pediatric dental friends and it was good to catch up on some knowledge and some fun. And most of all, I took this class in preparation for a test I took on March 9th, second part of the Pediatric Dental board exam. I took the first written part 2 years ago and now it was time for the practical part. So I spent lots of time studying and finally I flew to Dallas to take the test. Talk about a stressful day! This is a very well designed oral exam that takes 2 hours of answering question on various cases of pediatric dental issues. Impressive test, but surely stressful. But that’s OK-a month later it turned out I passed! So for all of you interested in titles, I am now past all the possible exams and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry!
Sometime in the midst of all the studying, Martina, Yvette (my wonderful assistants) and I participated in Give Kids a Smile Day at the University of Houston Dental School. We volunteered all Saturday morning to do dental work for low income children in need. It was a lot of fun and I truly appreciated having my assistants there with me. They were wonderful as always.
In the meantime we took a little vacation and went to visit my grandma in Krakow, Poland. We took Christoph with us and it was an interesting quick trans-Atlantic trip. We had a great time and the weather cooperated, so here are some pictures to let you see our adventures.
I also want to tell you guys about our new panoramic digital x-ray machine. Now we can take the pictures we used to have to send you to an outside facility and make our diagnosis of dental findings complete without sending you all around town.
Now we are ready for the summer. We are hoping again to see many of our wonderful patients this year! Come out of the pools, camps, sunbathing activities and join us for an hour to catch us up on your life. We are waiting for you with excitement!

Smiles For Kids has had an eventful few months! Our summer was very busy and fun. We saw many of our patients and we enjoyed hearing about their vacation plans and fun they were having in Houston. We have lots of great swimmers, travelers, and other great little and big kids in our office!
But all that summer fun had to come to an end eventually! We were still hoping for the heat to go away as well! I think we might be getting there now.
We welcomed fall this year with an open house of our remodeled office. Lots of our patients had a chance of seeing it already, but many of the pediatricians, orthodontists and friends of ours came to celebrate the end of construction with us. We had a really good time and we are putting in a few pictures for your enjoyment.

Staff ready to welcome our guests.

Then October started and we headed out to Las Vegas for the ADA (American Dental Association) conference. We took many classes on things such as new dental materials and techniques, updates on insurances, bleaching, and sedation. We enjoyed ourselves and went to see some shows while we were at it. It was a lot of fun and we hope to share this with you in pictures! If you have any questions about our classes, we would be very glad to share this with you. Please call us or ask at your next appointment.

All dressed up and ready for the conference.

Girls night out in Vegas, we saw a musical, had a dinner together and bonded till the late hours.

We are also hoping that you are gearing up for the holidays and that you are still watching your snacks! We are attaching a letter that we send to schools that give parents suggestions on what and how to eat during the holidays. Have a wonderful holiday season and don’t eat too much turkey!
And don’t forget about your checkup during the holidays!
